A Walk in the Forest
Biography
Born just steps from the Bruce Trail in Ontario, Canada and now living just steps away from the Black
Forest in Germany, Natalie Roessler has always had a special relationship with the forest and the sense
of “home” that it brings her. With over 15 years experience as a fine art photographer, capturing lifestyle
images of people, she has begun a new series combining photography with her interest in the way the
forest draws us in and heals something within us.
“I found myself gently moving through emotions while simultaneously capturing wild mushrooms and the
forest floor, almost as if they were healing and recharging me without me knowing it, showing me the
simple ways I can move forward within my sadness.”
Natalie strives to capture the feeling that a walk in the forest brings by paying attention to small details, the mushrooms and the stillness. She is captivated by the initial pull of our instincts, in search of solitude or a space to recharge.
Inspired by her own personal experience, Natalie found herself only able to process the grief of a late friend during her quiet walks in the forest.
“Nature has a way of giving us the space to heal with its silence and gentle beauty.”
This series was created to evoke emotion and to capture the raw beauty the forest reveals, to find
strength within ourselves, and to feel aligned in our desire to seek nature for answers.
All images within this series were captured in the Black Forest of Germany and the French Alsace region
